Faerie Lore

Faerie Wisdom

This is a collection of bit of wisdom I have collected from various anthologies. Many of them are remedies for ridding or protecting yourself from Faeries, however I recommend them only for the malicious ones.

·      When in Faerie Land, never eat or drink, or allow yourself to be romantically touched or kissed by a Faerie. Doing so could leave to your entrapment and enslavement in the faerie realm.

·      However, if a Fey offers you a drink or some food in the natural world, do not refuse it, for this is regarded as deeply offensive by the Faeries.

·      If you happen upon a Faerie Ring (Darker circle of grass in a field, or can also be a circle of toadstools in the forest), DO NOT enter it until you have tossed a glove into the center, rendering it harmless.

·      Faeries enjoy shape-shifting, so if this is suspected, look for flaws (missing ear, odd colored eyes, etc.) as they often make mistakes.

·      Bad Faeries are most active during the last quarter of a waning moon while Good Faeries are most active during a waxing moon.

·      Exercise caution when hearing Faerie Music. Its haunting melody has been the source for inspiration, but has also lead to the death of its audience many times. (See the mythology of the SIRENS.)

·      Be cautious during your 3rd meeting with the Fae, or your 3rd visit to the Faerie Realm, as this will set the tone for your dealings with the Fae forever.

Protection

·          Place a nail in your right pocket

·          4-leaf shamrock will break the Faerie spell over any human who carries it

·          Besom (Witch’s Broomstick) near the hearth will keep any unwanted spirits from entering through the chimney

·          Place broken mirrors in a jar on the sill of a main window and visualize the pieces as millions of smaller mirrors reflecting away unwanted guests

·           Discover the faerie’s true name (a-la Rumplestiltskin)
